MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — Wisconsin congressman Tom Tiffnay say the US needs to “stay the course,” with the Trump administration’s tariff policies.

“The big player in this is China, and China is trying to bring America to its knees. Their goal is world hegemony. They want to they want to control the 21st century, and they’re using farmers right now as a pawn in the game,” Tiffany said.

Tiffany, who’s running for governor, was questioned at the recent World Dairy Expo in Madison. He said the concerns of farmers who are losing out on overseas markets are being heard, and he expects revenues generated by tariffs will be designated to help them out.

Wisconsin farmers typically export about two thirds of the roughly 1 point 3 billion dollars’ worth of soybeans they grow annually. China has refused to buy any US grown soybeans this year due to the tariffs.

A recent statement from the non-partisan Wisconsin Soybean Association says the organization is extremely concerned for the state’s farm economy.
