WAUSAU, Wis. (WRN) — Head Start needs more support, according to US Senator Tammy Baldwin, who visited a Head Start facility in Wausau on Tuesday.
The Wisconsin Democrat says the early childhood education program has had funding cut by the Trump Administration and it is a program that gives children have a solid foundation for learning:
“Thankfully, I sit on a committee that was able to fight back and restore that funding,” Baldwin said. “This provides these children with what the name implies, a head start. And it is tried and true with regard to the evidence that shows that this is an incredibly vital investment in our children’s future.”
The administration claims the cuts will de-regulate Head Start, allowing for more local decision making while cutting administrative costs. Opponents say it would diminish the quality of a Head Start education.
