BARRON, Wis. (WJMC) — Next year’s Barron County property tax levy was approved by the board of supervisors on Monday morning.
The 2026 budget levy is 23.4 million dollars, an increase of about 3.2 percent from 2025. The county saw a growth of about 1.7 percent in net new construction.
County Administrator Jeff French told the board that the tax levy has been kept in check, compared to inflation and that of other counties.
“The average increase in our tax levy has been 2.36%. Over the last 10 years, the consumer price index has increased 2.9%. So it’s pretty good to say that overall our levy in the last decade has been less than CPI,” French said. “Per capita taxation in Barron County is $485 per capita. We’re $58 above the state average. We’re $47 below the median. We’re $119 below our surrounding counties.”
A mill rate of 3.06 for the county property tax rate was approved on a majority vote.
