CHETEK, Wis. (NWN) — Controversial automated license plate reader cameras in Chetek have been disabled.
Chetek’s Common Council voted Friday to cover two such cameras in the city and seek breaking the 3-year contract with Flock, the company that operates them.
The cameras had become a point of contention for residents concerned about privacy and mass surveillance, the mayor and city council, and the city’s police chief.
