WASHINGTON, D.C. (WRN) — A “clean CR” is at the root of the federal government shutdown.
On WISN’s UpFront, 3rd District House Republican Derrick Van Orden said the blame rests with Senate Democrats refusal to pass that continuing resolution to fund the government.
“The House Republicans over a month ago passed a clean CR sent it over to the Senate, and for the first time in American history, a opposition party voted down a clean CR. This is the first time this has ever happened,” Van Orden said.
But during a press conference in Madison last week, 2nd District Democrat Mark Pocan said Republicans broke several funding agreements earlier this year.
“Then they voted on the big ugly law and cemented in cuts to healthcare to SNAP 158 billion, I think is the amount and to education funding all to give a tax break to their donors,” Pocan said.
The House remains sidelined while any agreement in the US Senate remains elusive.
