MADISON, Wis. (NWN) — Seventy percent of the state is under drought or abnormally dry conditions.

According to NOAA, severe drought conditions are affecting the northwest corner of the state, including most of Burnett, Sawyer and Washburn counties.

The DNR says these drought conditions have caused low water levels on many lakes, rivers and streams and may cause trouble or increase risks for boaters. Launching or recovering boats may be more difficult or impossible with shallow landings. More water hazards, like stumps, rocks, logs and sandbars are exposed or closer to the surface when the water drops.

Residents on lakes and rivers are encouraged to take out their boats early, before they are left high and dry.
