CUMBERLAND, Wis. (NWN) — An early-morning water rescue at the Cumberland City Beach has resulted in charges for the rescued woman.
Cumberland Police Chief Heather Wolfe said police were called to the beach just before 4 a.m. on Saturday for a woman in the water who was in distress or was unresponsive. Alcohol was believed to be a factor.
Police at the scene attempted to contact the woman, who swam farther out. Officers swam out to her, more than 50 yards from shore, and she allegedly began striking them and trying to swim away. Police used a nearby boat and a Cumberland Fire Department boat to rescue the woman, who allegedly continued to kick and punch first responders.
Authorities identified her as 26-year-old Honey A. Blackcoon, and said she was arrested on charges of battery to law enforcement, battery to a healthcare worker, resisting an officer and disorderly conduct.
