RICE LAKE, Wis. (NWN) — An extreme heat warning through Thursday evening. The National Weather Service says high temps and humidity will make heat index values top 100 for much of the week.

This includes Barron, Burnett, Chippewa, Dunn, Polk, Rusk and St. Croix counties through 9 p.m. Thursday, and Burnett, Sawyer and Washburn counties through 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

Prolonged heat stress can lead to heat exhaustion or heat stroke. Stay in air conditioned spaces, stay out of the sun, drink plenty of fluids and check on relatives and neighbors. Do not leave young children or pets in unattended vehicles, and if working outside, take frequent breaks in shaded or cool areas.
