HAYWARD, Wis. (WJMC) — A collection of nationwide political rallies are Saturday, and local residents are taking part.
Called “No Kings,” event organizers say it aims to promote the rule of law and responsible, humane government norms and policies with a peaceful day of action. It’s the same day President Donald Trump is hosting a military parade Saturday, and also shares his birthday.
No Kings has drawn criticism from conservative perspectives for being ‘anti-Trump.’ Barb Czarnecki, a local volunteer organizer for the rally in Hayward, says the rally is more than that.
“I suppose you could say it is partially ‘anti-Trump,” Czarnecki said. “It’s more ‘anti-Trump policies that are unAmerican.’ A lot of things are disturbing and a lot of people want to show support for America and our Founding Fathers and our founding principles and our Constitution.”
Cznarnecki also dispelled claims participants are outside “paid actors,” saying they are not paid and are local residents.
On Saturday, No Kings rallies are in Rice Lake (across from Marketplace on Main Street) and Spooner (at the intersection of US 63 and WIS 70), from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m., and in Hayward (at the intersection of US 63 and WIS 27), 12 until 2 p.m.
