SUPERIOR, Wis. (WJMC) — A traffic stop, a shootout with police and a crash into a school building in Superior early Sunday morning.

The Wisconsin Department of Justice said the officer-involved shooting began just before 2:45 a.m. on Sunday, when police were alerted to a potential domestic dispute.

A vehicle believed to be involved was stopped by a police officer at Tower Avenue and North 37th Street. The subject got out and shot at the officer, who was struck. Two officers returned fire and struck the suspect.

The suspect fled in the vehicle and crashed into the Superior Middle School. There, the suspect was arrested by police just after 7 a.m. on Sunday.

The officer who was shot was taken to the hospital and later released. The suspect was also taken to the hospital and later booked into the Douglas County Jail.

The DOJ did not release the names of the suspect or the officer.
