MENOMONIE, Wis. (WJMC) — Scammers pretending to be from the sheriff’s office are trying to defraud people with phoney bail or bond money demands.
Dunn County Sheriff Kevin Bygd said scammers are going as far as targeting family members of current inmates to appear more plausible. There is no deputy or jailer by the name of “Bradshaw,” and the jail will not call family or friends for special programs or special housing costs for inmates.
Any funds to be deposited for an inmate’s jail account should be via the sheriff’s department website, dunncountysheriff.com, or sheriff’s office app. To verify any calls, contact the jail directly at 715-232-2220.
Anyone who has been the victim of a scam should call the sheriff’s department at 715-232-1348.
