MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — Higher energy costs from new data centers should not be passed on to other customers, says State Senator Romaine Quinn.

The Birchwood Republican introduced legislation with Rep. Shannon Zimmerman, of River Falls, that would prohibit rate hikes from data centers, require any renewable energy used to be located at the site, require cooling water to be recycled, report annual water usage, and to restore any site that is not completed.

Quinn said he was concerned with data centers high energy costs being passed on to other ratepayers.
