Friday marks 25 years since the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

Services in the area will remember those lost in this tragic event that forever changed the nation. A Remembrance Ceremony will be held at the Barron County Justice Center at noon. Barron County Sheriff’s Department Chaplain Cody Kargus talks about why we remember.

“It’s important because, you know, 25 years ago, it impacted many of us who were alive at that time and it shaped our country, shaped how we think of the world and how we want to just be unified in our country, supporting just not only military personnel, but just who we are as a nation. Kargus said. “We’re going to have a moment of silence and just a prayer and just sharing about, you know, just the lives that were lost and just reminding people that there’s something that we promise we never forget and we’re going to respect and honor the 2,977 people that passed away on that day.”

The short ceremony will be conducted by the sheriff’s department, local veterans organizations, and local fire departments and EMS services. The public is welcome.

In Cadott, the American Legion Post 159 and VFW Post 6005 will hold remembrances and tributes at the 9/11 monument at the Wisconsin Veterans Tribute, located at 641 Highway 27, in Cadott.

Starting at 7:30 a.m. Friday a bell will ring at 7:46 and 8:03 a.m. to mark when the airliners struck the World Trade Center towers.

Speakers at the event include State Senator Jesse James and Jim Anderson, a United Airlines pilot who knew one of the pilots killed.
