MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Twins have called up top prospect Walker Jenkins with the status of All-Star center fielder Byron Buxton unclear. The 2023 first-round draft pick was batting .308 with 51 runs, 12 homers and 17 steals with a .976 OPS in 69 games with Triple-A St. Paul. The 21-year-old native of North Carolina hit eight homers in his last 15 games for the Saints. Jenkins was 15th overall on Major League Baseball’s prospect rankings for 2026. Buxton has been hampered by a hip injury over the last two months and was removed from Minnesota’s game on Tuesday with another aggravation.
(Green Bay, WI) — Packers running back Josh Jacobs has been charged with two misdemeanor counts for an argument with his girlfriend. His first court appearance is scheduled for November 17th. If convicted he could face up to 18 months in prison. The incident happened May 23rd at his home in Hobart. Responding police say redness was seen on the woman’s face and neck, she had a bump on her head, and was complaining of pain.
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — The Green Bay Packers have addressed their depth issues at tight end by signing veteran Jonnu Smith to a one-year contract. Rosenhaus Sports represents Smith and announced the signing in a social media post on Thursday. Smith caught 38 passes for 222 yards and two touchdowns last season in 17 games with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers released him in March. Green Bay expects starting tight end Tucker Kraft to be available for the start of the regular season after he tore his right anterior cruciate ligament last November.

(AP) — Dallas Turner’s performance for the Minnesota Vikings during training camp after a strong finish last season has underscored why they were so happy to get him in the first round of the 2024 draft. The Vikings have a big role waiting for the third-year edge rusher in 2026 and are eager to watch him run with it. The 6-foot-3 Turner stood out during joint practices with the Baltimore Ravens last week by frequently beating blocks from two-time Pro Bowl left tackle Ronnie Stanley. The Vikings opened up a starting spot for Turner by trading Jonathan Greenard to the Philadelphia Eagles.
