PITTSBURGH (AP) — Konnor Griffin hit a two-run single to key a five-run second inning and Henry Davis tacked on a two-run homer to lead the Pittsburgh Pirates over the NL Central champion Milwaukee Brewers 7-4. Pittsburgh (76-77) is closing in on missing the playoffs for the 11th consecutive season. Since 1992, the Pirates’ only postseason appearances were from 2013-15.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — The Green Bay Packers are facing a tough start to the season after a fourth-quarter collapse led to a 39-22 loss against Minnesota. It marked their sixth consecutive defeat. It’s the first time they’ve lost that many since dropping seven straight in 1991. The Packers’ most recent win was in December 2025. Next, they face the New York Jets, who are coming off a strong 23-10 victory over Tennessee. The Jets are aiming for their first 2-0 start since 2015. They dominated with a solid defense and efficient offense. Coach Aaron Glenn says every week the Jets are trying to make a statement regardless of the opponent.

CHICAGO (AP) — It’s a stressful week for Chicago Bears coach Ben Johnson. Same for Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores. They have that type of effect on each other. Johnson and Flores match wits once again on Sunday when Caleb Williams and Chicago host Dallas Turner and Minnesota for their home opener. Johnson is 5-1 when calling the plays against a Flores-coached defense, averaging 27.5 points per game. Flores is known for his array of blitzes, and he really turned up the pressure in the second half of Minnesota’s 39-22 win over Green Bay in Week 1.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Quinn Hughes unwound after an especially eventful hockey season with the usual retreat to his lake home in Michigan. He would prefer if everyone would relax about his contract situation, too. Hughes reported to training camp on the final year of his current deal with talks in progress about an extension with the Minnesota Wild. Hughes said after the team’s first practice that he simply hasn’t been in a rush to think hard about it. He arrived in Minnesota near midseason after a trade with Vancouver and set the franchise defenseman record with 53 points in just 48 games.
