MILWAUKEE (AP) — Ezequiel Durán homered, doubled and drove in three runs to help the Texas Rangers avoid a sweep by beating the Milwaukee Brewers 7-4. Joc Pederson added a solo shot Sunday as the Rangers snapped their own four-game skid and the Brewers’ four-game winning streak. Milwaukee’s Gary Sánchez hit his 200th career homer. Durán tied the game with a two-out solo homer in the third and put the Rangers ahead for good by driving in two runs with a ground-rule double in the fifth. MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Zebby Matthews took a perfect game into the sixth inning and finished off his first career shutout and complete game as the Minnesota Twins beat the Chicago White Sox 5-0 on Sunday to avoid being swept by the American League Central leaders. Josh Bell had a pair of RBI singles and Luke Keaschall homered for the Twins, who had lost four games in a row and sunk to 8 1/2 games behind Chicago and four games behind Cleveland in the Central and for the third wild card spot entering Sunday.
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Kyle McCord threw four touchdown passes — including two to Kisean Johnson in the last 3 1/2 minutes of the game — and the Green Bay Packers rallied to beat the Arizona Cardinals 42-38 in the preseason finale for both teams. The Packers rested starting quarterback Jordan Love and backup Tyrod Taylor and gave McCord an opportunity to play the entire game. The second-year pro responded by going 22 of 35 for 226 yards. Green Bay’s Will Sheppard scored on an 81-yard punt return and caught a 12-yard touchdown pass.
(Green Bay, WI) — Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs has been placed on the NFL commissioner’s exempt list while two misdemeanor charges against him are pending. The move prevents him from practicing or attending games. Jacobs may be present at the club’s facility on a reasonable basis for meetings, individual workouts, therapy and rehabilitation and other permitted non-football activities upon request and with the club’s permission. Jacobs is facing charges of battery and criminal damage to property stemming from what police described as a physical confrontation with his girlfriend. Jacobs’ lawyers say the allegations will be address in court, not in the media.
WEST ALLIS, Wis (AP) — Alex Palou won his record-tying fourth consecutive IndyCar season championship with a 10th-place finish Sunday night in the resumption of a rain-delayed race at the Milwaukee Mile. The 29-year-old from Barcelona, Spain, added to yet another dominating year for himself and Chip Ganassi Racing. Palou’s four consecutive championships match the record set by Sebastien Bourdais from 2004-07. He becomes just the third driver to win five titles, with A.J. Foyt winning seven and Scott Dixon six. It’s also a record-setting 18th title won by a Ganassi driver, one more than Team Penske. In 17 races this season, Palou has six wins, 12 top-five finishes and 14 top-10 results.
