(Minneapolis, MN) — The Minnesota Vikings scored the last 29 points of Sunday’s 39-22 come-from-behind victory over the Packers. Green Bay led 22-10 in the third period when coach Matt LaFleur decided to take three points off the scoreboard, then watched his offense fail on a fourth-and-one attempt. Minnesota – especially its defense – dominated the rest of the way. Jordan Love threw for 387 yards and two scores, but he also threw an interception on a tipped pass and lost a fumble. Christian Watson caught both scoring passes, one of them good for 81 yards. The Packers try to bounce back from that total collapse when they take on the New York Jets next Sunday.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kyler Murray took a hit to the head at the end of the run and had to be pulled from the game in the first quarter of his debut with the team. Murray was placed in the concussion protocol for evaluation and announced by the Vikings as out for the rest of the game against the Green Bay Packers. Murray took off on a third-and-7 play from the Minnesota 33 and had his helmet knocked off by the shoulder of Packers cornerback Javon Bullard. The hit drew an unnecessary roughness penalty. Carson Wentz took over for Murray.

(Green Bay, WI) — The Packers have signed tight end Tucker Kraft to a four-year contract extension. That makes Kraft the third-highest paid player at his position in the NFL. The extension is reported to be worth 75 million dollars. His new salary trails only George Kittle of the 49ers and Trey McBride of the Cardinals.

(Milwaukee, WI) — A sacrifice fly by Reds catcher Tyler Stephenson knocked in the winning run in Sunday’s 4-3 win over the Brewers. Milwaukee had jumped to a 2-0 lead in the second inning. After scoring 33 runs in the first two games of the series, the Brewers were held to six hits. Jake Bauers and Joseph Ortiz hit homers. Abner Uribe took the loss in relief. Milwaukee is off today (Monday), then starts a three-game set in Pittsburgh Tuesday.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Steven Kwan homered to lead off the game, Tanner Bibee had seven strikeouts in 6 2/3 strong innings, and the Cleveland Guardians beat the Minnesota Twins 9-2 to pull within a half-game of the American League Central-leading Chicago White Sox. The Guardians are one game ahead of Toronto, and have a 5 1/2-game lead over Minnesota, in the race for the final AL wild-card spot. Cleveland hosts the White Sox for a three-game series beginning Monday. Travis Bazzana drove in three runs for Cleveland, including a two-run homer in the sixth inning. Bibee (6-15) gave up just two runs on four hits. Trevor Larnach hit a solo homer in the seventh for the Twins.

(Madison, WI) — The Badgers rebounded from the loss to Notre Dame by taking a one-sided win over Western Illinois Saturday 36-9. Abu Sama the Third raced 72 yards for a touchdown on the game’s first play from scrimmage. Wisconsin rushed for 233 yards and a pair of scores. Chris Brooks Junior caught a TD pass from quarterback Colton Joseph and safety Carson Van Dinter blocked a punt, then recovered in the end zone for six points. The Badgers try to make it two in a row when Eastern Michigan visits Camp Randall Stadium next Saturday.

BERLIN (AP) — Breanna Stewart scored 22 points, Jackie Young added 18 and the U.S. beat France 97-79 to win its fifth consecutive women’s FIBA World Cup championship. The victory extended the Americans’ streak to 36 straight World Cup wins, dating to the semifinals of the 2006 World Cup, where they lost to Russia. Despite the final score, this one wasn’t easy as the Americans trailed by 14 points in the first half. But the U.S. improved to 9-0 in gold-medal games since finishing second in 1983 to the Soviet Union. Dominique Malonga scored 21 points and Gabby Williams added 20 for France.

NEW YORK (AP) — Alexander Zverev won his second major championship and kept American men without a Grand Slam title since 2003, beating Ben Shelton 6-3, 7-6 (2), 5-7, 6-2 on Sunday in the U.S. Open final. Zverev finally broke through in the majors by winning this year’s French Open and followed up by adding the title in New York that he so painfully let slip away in 2020. The No. 1 seed in a Grand Slam for the first time, he capitalized on Shelton’s shaky start in his first major final. Shelton was trying to win the first title by an American man since Andy Roddick won in Flushing Meadows.
