(Philadelphia, PA) — The Philadelphia Phillies will have to wait at least another game to clinch a post-season berth. Strong pitching by Logan Henderson and another big hit by William Contreras highlighted a 4-1 Brewers win Wednesday night. Phillies hitters were stopped cold, going oh-for-12 with runners in scoring position. Henderson earned his 11th win. Brice Turang and Christian Yelich each hit homers. Bryse Wilson starts the series finale tonight (Thursday).

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Pinch-hitter Walker Jenkins hit an RBI single in the seventh inning that put Minnesota ahead and the Twins won their second straight over the San Francisco Giants with a 4-2 victory. The score was 2-all with Kody Clemens at second and one out in the seventh. Jenkins delivered a base hit to right off Dylan Smith (0-6) that scored Clemens for a 3-2 Minnesota lead. With two outs, Josh Bell added an RBI single off Sam Hentges to increase the Twins’ edge to 4-2. Yoendrys Gomez (3-4) retired all five hitters he faced to earn the win. Andrew Morris worked a scoreless ninth for his fifth save. Luke Keaschall hit his 10th homer of the season for the Twins.

(Green Bay, WI) — The Packers are favored, but by less than a touchdown, in tonight’s (Thursday’s) Thursday Night Football matchup with the Atlanta Falcons. The spread has narrowed from seven-and-a-half points to around five after the announcement that Michael Penix Junior would start for the visitors. Green Bay needs to control the line of scrimmage and avoid penalties in its third game of the season. The Packers lead the NFL in penalties and penalty yards after the first two weeks. They are riding a 13-game winning streak in home openers.

(Madison, WI) — The Badgers are dealing with another season-ending injury. Transfer cornerback Cai Bates has a torn ACL. The Wisconsin football program has been dealing with multiple injuries over the last few years. Bates wasn’t a starter, but coaches say he was trending upwards. He was the team’s second outside cornerback off the bench. His departure impacts the depth of the Badgers’ cornerback rotation.

(Milwaukee, WI) — The NBA’s investigation of the Bucks’ deal with veteran guard Gary Trent Junior is still active. Brew Hoop reports that the national investigations law firm Hecker Fink has been hired. Trent played for Milwaukee on minimum contract deals for two years, then agreed on a four-year contract worth 64 million dollars – an apparent overpayment. The investigation focuses on whether that was a cap-circumvention violation by the Bucks. The report says there has been no incriminating documentary evidence discovery, but that doesn’t mean the team won’t be penalized.

NEW YORK (AP) — The WNBA playoff picture is sharpening as the regular season enters its final day. The Lynx have clinched the top seed and will face eighth-seeded New York in the opening round that begins Sunday. The Atlanta Dream will be the four seed after beating New York on Wednesday night. Who they play is still up in the air as it will be either Indiana or Washington. Indiana plays at Minnesota and Washington hosts Chicago on Thursday. Dallas is locked into the seventh seed and will face either Golden State or Las Vegas. The Valkyries visit Los Angeles and the Aces play at Phoenix.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — The Minnesota Wild are coming off their first playoff series win in 11 years and seeking an even deeper run next spring. They beat the Dallas Stars in six games before losing to the Colorado Avalanche in five games. The Wild have only advanced past the second round once in the franchise’s first 25 seasons. Their bid for their first Stanley Cup begins with 40-goal scorers Kirill Kaprizov and Matt Boldy and star defensemen Quinn Hughes and Brock Faber. Jesper Wallstedt will carry a heavy load in goal with Filip Gustavsson recovering from hip surgery.
