MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Spencer Torkelson hit a two-run home run in the 12th inning, Javier Báez added a bases-clearing double, and the Detroit Tigers beat the Minnesota Twins 11-6 on Wednesday night to salvage the final game of a three-game series. John Peck drove in three runs with the first two hits of his career. Torkelson lined the second pitch he saw from Tommy Nance (2-3) into the left-field seats for his 21st home run, but first since July 29. Kyle Finnegan (3-0) tossed the final two innings for the win.
(Madison, WI) – The fifth-ranked Wisconsin volleyball team passed another early-season test Tuesday night, defeating number-17 Florida in a five-set thriller at the UW Field House. Audrey Flanagan led the Badgers with 18 kills, while Grace Egan added 17 and Lynney Tarnow chipped in 16. Setter Charlie Fuerbringer recorded her second double-double of the season with 55 assists and 15 digs. Florida entered the match after upsetting 11th-ranked Minnesota, but Wisconsin held off the Gators to improve its resume and reinforce its top-five national ranking.
(Green Bay, WI) – Packers running back MarShawn Lloyd says he’s ready for whatever role comes his way as Green Bay opens the season. With Josh Jacobs on the commissioner’s exempt list, Lloyd is expected to take on a much larger workload despite having just six career carries in the NFL. The third-year back has battled injuries throughout his first two seasons, but General Manager Brian Gutekunst says Lloyd is “as ready as he’s ever been.” Lloyd says he’s confident in his abilities and prepared to handle as many touches as the Packers need.
The Green Bay Packers believe they can make a Super Bowl run and end their recent history of playoff disappointment. The Packers have reached the postseason each of the three years since Jordan Love took over as starting quarterback. But they’ve had the NFC’s seventh and final playoff seed each of those years and have back-to-back losses in the wild-card round. New Packers president/CEO Ed Policy showed his faith in coach Matt LaFleur and general manager Brian Gutekunst by giving them contract extensions even after the team ended last season with five straight losses.
The Minnesota Vikings have turned to Kyler Murray for their fourth season-opening quarterback in four years. The first pick in the 2019 draft landed in Minnesota after being let go by the Arizona Cardinals. Both Murray and the Vikings are aiming for a rebound season. The Vikings won their last five games on the 2025 schedule to finish 9-8 after a rocky debut at quarterback by 2024 first-round draft pick J.J. McCarthy. They’re banking on a fresh strategy and a healthier offensive line to spark a running game that has lagged under coach Kevin O’Connell. O’Connell enters his fifth year.
(Green Bay, WI) – Lambeau Field is adding another event to its calendar. The Green Bay Packers have announced the Frozen Tundra Faceoff, a college hockey doubleheader set for February 20th, 2027. The defending national champion Wisconsin women will take on Ohio State, followed by the Badger men against Michigan. It marks the first hockey event at Lambeau in 21 years, since Wisconsin beat Ohio State there in 2006. A ticket presale begins September 9th, with tickets going on sale to the general public September 11th.
