(Summerlin, NV) — After giving up seven home runs Monday night, Brewers pitchers surrendered five more in Tuesday night’s 7-5 loss to the Athletics. The teams have split the first two games of the series. Milwaukee’s Jackson Chourio hit his fifth homer. Starter Robert Gasser was touched for four of the long balls in five innings. He took the loss. The Brewers go with rookie Brandon Sproat for the start in the rubber game of the series.

(Milwaukee, WI) — The Brewers are investing long-term in another young star. The team signed 21-year-old top prospect Luis Lara to a seven-year contract, including about 31 million dollars of guaranteed money. If all incentives are reached, Lara could pocket as much as 78 million. Milwaukee previously signed big deals with Jackson Chourio and Cooper Pratt. Lara is an outfielder known for his defense, but he’s added power to his game. He was in Milwaukee last weekend, taking a physical before signing the agreement.
DETROIT (AP) — Dillon Dingler had two homers among his four hits and drove in four runs, leading the Detroit Tigers to a 10-4 win over the Minnesota Twins. Dingler had a solo homer in the first and a three-run shot in the sixth to raise his team-leading homer total to 16. He added a double and single and scored three runs. Kerry Carpenter hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the fifth as the teams combined for eight homers in the game. Riley Greene homered and drove in two runs as the Tigers won for the sixth time in seven games. Josh Bell hit his 200th career homer for the Twins. MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Rookie Olivia Miles had 24 points, seven rebounds and six assists, Kayla McBride added 22 points, and the Minnesota Lynx used a big first half to cruise past the Dallas Wings 100-76 for their eighth straight victory. Natasha Howard scored 21 points and Courtney Williams added 16 for Minnesota (10-2), which became the first WNBA team to reach 10 wins this season. McBride made four of Minnesota’s seven 3-pointers. Paige Bueckers led Dallas (7-4) with 23 points. Arike Ogunbowale added 16 points, and Jessica Shepard had 12 points and nine rebounds. LAS VEGAS (AP) — Jordan Staal scored his second goal of the game at 6:32 of the third period to put the Carolina Hurricanes ahead for good in their 5-3 victory in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final over the Vegas Golden Knights. The win on Tuesday night evened the series after four games. Game 5 is Thursday night at Carolina. Nikolaj Ehlers added an empty-net goal and two assists for the Hurricanes, Jackson Blake had a goal and an assist, Logan Stankoven scored a goal. Brandon Bussi made 18 saves. Mark Stone, William Karlsson and Brett Howden scored goals for the Golden Knights, and Carter Hart made 23 saves
The Minnesota Wild signed center Michael McCarron to a six-year, $20 million contract that takes one of their impending free agents off the market after his productive arrival following a midseason trade. The 31-year-old McCarron played in 20 regular-season games for the Wild after he was acquired from the Nashville Predators for a 2028 second-round draft pick. The 6-foot-6 McCarron had his best NHL season in 2025-26 between Nashville and Minnesota with several career highs. He had two goals, two assists, 27 hits and a team-leading 14 blocked shots over 11 games for the Wild in the playoffs.
(Green Bay, WI) — The Packers need Lukas Van Ness to deliver on the potential he has shown, but not yet realized. The first practice of minicamp offers some hope there. Van Ness had a tackle for loss on the very first play. His pressure on the second play led to a turnover by quarterback Jordan Love. Van Ness gives early credit to defensive coordinator Jonathan Love’s approach, which offers players more freedom. It’s going to go big again when the Badgers open their college football season against Notre Dame at Lambeau Field. A big community event will be held in the Broadway District downtown September 5th. It’s being called Badger Bash North. The game with the Fighting Irish will be played the next day. Dozens of activities and a parade are coming to the kickoff of the 2026 college football season.
