(Chicago, IL) — The Chicago Cubs jumped out on top, building a three-run lead, then the Brewers owned Tuesday’s game the rest of the way, winning 9-4. Christian Yelich and Joey Ortiz had home runs and Antonio Senzatela claimed the victory in relief. After giving up 17 runs and 20 hits Monday, the Cubs were held to a half-dozen hits the next night. CHICAGO (AP) — The Milwaukee Brewers have added catcher Bo Naylor and reliever JoJo Romero to their active roster. Naylor was recalled from Triple-A Nashville. Romero was reinstated from the 15-day injured list after recovering from an appendectomy. Milwaukee acquired Naylor and Romero in a pair of trade-deadline deals. Naylor came over in a trade with Cleveland, and Romero was acquired in a swap with St. Louis. Naylor’s promotion puts a third catcher on the roster for the NL Central leaders, joining William Contreras and Gary Sánchez.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Royce Lewis and Ryan Jeffers hit three-run homers during a 10-run sixth inning for the Minnesota Twins to highlight a 15-2 victory over the Detroit Tigers. Kody Clemens homered for the second straight game and Kalen Culpepper had two hits and three RBIs for the Twins, who won their third straight game after losing seven of eight. Luke Keaschall drove in two runs on two hits and Lewis went 3 for 4 with a walk. Connor Prielipp (4-7) struck out five over five scoreless innings for the win in relief. The Tigers have lost 14 of their last 17 games and are 13-27 against the AL Central.

With veteran Josh Jacobs on the commissioner’s exempt list and facing possible suspension, the Packers are ready to go. Third-year back MarShawn Lloyd will try to be the back seen in training camp and not the guy who missed the vast majority of the last two seasons. Kaleb Johnson isn’t fast, but he is powerful. MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Vikings have agreed to sign 13-year veteran outside linebacker Kyle Van Noy. A person with knowledge of the deal speaking on condition of anonymity because the contract had not yet been finalized confirmed the agreement to The Associated Press. Van Noy was a free agent after playing the last three seasons with the Baltimore Ravens. The 35-year-old should provide some needed depth and experience at the edge rusher position behind starters Andrew Van Ginkel and Dallas Turner. Van Noy earned his first Pro Bowl selection in 2024 after a career-high 12 1/2 sacks.

(AP) — Wisconsin reacted to back-to-back losing seasons by tackling the dual challenge of restocking its talent base through the portal while making sure those transfers understood what it takes to win. Embattled coach Luke Fickell responded by reaching out to players from past Wisconsin teams that contended for Big Ten titles. That helped the Badgers discover the threads that linked the best teams in this program’s history. How well the Badgers respond to what they learned could determine whether Fickell’s tenure lasts beyond this season.
(Madison, WI) — Former Badgers tight end Owen Daniels has joined the John Mackey Award Selection Committee. That 12-member group selects college football’s most outstanding tight end each season. It’s aimed at preserving the legacy of Pro Football Hall of Fame member John Mackey. Daniels played 10 seasons in the NFL. Badger Wire-dot-com reports the committee considers performance, leadership, and the overall impact a tight end has on the game.
(Austin, TX) — Bucks veteran Myles Turner is doing what he can to build team chemistry. Turner hosted a team mini-camp in Austin, Texas, last month. Video posted online shows the group making pizza, playing pool and golf, trying on cowboy hats, boat riding, and working out at St. Edwards University. The Milwaukee roster contains a lot of new names and the players themselves are working to avoid some of the behind-the-scenes problems from last season.
