MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Tesla CEO Elon Musk is supporting the conservative candidate in the race to fill a seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court, which could ultimately decide a Tesla lawsuit.
The electric vehicle maker has tried for years to establish company-run dealerships in Wisconsin and sued over the dispute this year. Musk has spent $3 million while groups he backs have spent $17 million to support Republican-backed court candidate Brad Schimel over Democratic-supported Susan Crawford.
In its January lawsuit, Tesla is seeking an exemption to a state law that allows only third parties, not auto manufacturers, to operate vehicle dealerships.
April 1 is the last day of voting in the election.
