MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — A recent illness outbreak in Florida puts raw milk back in the spotlight.

Adam Brock, Administrator for the Division of Food and Recreational Safety at DATCP notes sales of unpasteurized milk are illegal in Wisconsin.

“When you look at the rules, the regulations, not allowed. And people are finding interesting ways to obtain raw milk,” Brock said.

If you’re considering raw milk for its supposed benefits, Brock says they don’t outweigh the risks.

“No, that has been proven to not be the case. So we just ask that you educate yourself and realize that it is not risk free or low risk,” Brock said.

Brock says the agency also tries to educate producers about why raw milk remains illegal to sell in Wisconsin.
