WASHINGTON (AP) — Brice Turang hit two two-run homers, and the Milwaukee Brewers completed their first season sweep of the Washington Nationals with a 14-3 victory. Milwaukee set a club record for a three-game series with 56 hits. The Brewers scored 60 runs in their six wins over the Nationals this season. Christian Yelich went 2 for 3 and walked three times, giving the Brewers the lead for good with an RBI single in the first against rookie Brad Lord. Drew Millas had two hits and two RBIs for the Nationals in their fifth straight loss.

Milwaukee Brewers rookie Jacob Misiorowski has been placed on the 15-day injured list with a left tibia contusion. The team made the announcement Sunday ahead of the All-Star right-hander’s scheduled start against the Washington Nationals. The designation was retroactive to Thursday, a few days after Misiorowski took a line shot to the shin in the first inning against the Chicago Cubs. Misiorowski told reporters Sunday that he anticipates missing about two starts and being ready to go after the 15 days. Right-hander Logan Henderson was recalled from Triple-A Nashville and expected to start in his place in the series finale with the Nationals.
CLEVELAND (AP) — Trevor Larnach had a two-run single in a four-run first inning and the Minnesota Twins beat the Cleveland Guardians 5-4 on Sunday to avoid a three-game sweep. Matt Wallner and Royce Lewis also drove in runs in the first against Joey Cantillo (2-2), who struck out a season-high nine over 5 2/3 innings. The Guardians trailed 5-2 going into the ninth, but Brayan Rocchio’s pinch-hit single off Michael Tonkin scored Nolan Jones and C.J. Kayfus. Erasmo Ramírez entered and retired Daniel Schneemann and José Ramírez in order to close out the win. Minnesota snapped a four-game losing streak. Kody Funderburk (2-1) tossed two scoreless innings of relief, and Ramírez earned the save in his first big-league appearance since Aug. 30, 2024, with Tampa Bay.
The WNBA-leading Minnesota Lynx have acquired DiJonai Carrington in a trade from Dallas. The Lynx on Sunday sent Diamond Miller, Karlie Samuelson and their second-round draft pick in 2027 to the Wings. Carrington averaged 10.4 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 20 games for the Wings, who acquired her from Connecticut in February as part of a four-team trade. This is the fifth WNBA season for the 5-foot-11 guard/forward. Miller, the No. 2 overall pick by the Lynx in the draft two years ago, is averaging 4.1 points a game this season. Samuelson hasn’t played since June 29 because of surgery on her left foot.
GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) — Cameron Young is finally a PGA Tour winner and there was no stopping him in at the Wyndham Championship. Young took any drama out of the final round when he made five straight birdies led by nine shots. He coasted home from there and shot 68 to win by six. The victory follows seven runner-up finishes on the PGA Tour. He becomes the 1,000th player to win a PGA Tour-recognized event. Matti Schmid got the 70th and final spot for the postseason by closing with three straight birdies. Davis Thompson three-putted the final hole to miss out.
NEWTON, Iowa (AP) — William Byron fought off fuel worries in the closing laps to win the NASCAR Cup Series race Sunday at Iowa Speedway. Byron went the last 144 laps of the 350-lap race without a stop en route to his second victory of the season — he won the Daytona 500 in February — and 15th overall. He also took the season points lead from Hendrick Motorsports teammate Chase Elliott. Byron lost gambles on fuel twice this season, at Michigan and Indianapolis, but held on with the help of a caution-filled final stage to win by 1.192 seconds over pole-sitter Chase Briscoe. Byron led 141 laps. Brad Keselowski was third. He came into the race needing a win to get into the playoffs.
