(Cleveland, OH) — The Cleveland Browns ended an eight-game losing streak by coming from behind to upset the Packers Sunday 13-10. The teams were tied at 10 when Green Bay attempted what could have been a game-winning 43-yard field goal – but it was blocked. A few seconds later, Browns kicker Andre Szmyt booted the winning three-pointer as time ran out. The Packers’ only touchdown came on a three-yard pass from Jordan Love to John FitzPatrick in the third quarter. MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Isaiah Rodgers helped make Carson Wentz’s debut at quarterback for Minnesota a rousing success. Rodgers set a Vikings record with two defensive touchdowns and forced three of Cincinnati’s five turnovers in a 48-10 romp that was the worst loss in Bengals history. Jordan Mason rushed for 116 yards and two scores, Will Reichard made a 62-yard field goal for the longest in Vikings history as the first half ended. Wentz threw for two scores over three quarters. Jake Browning was intercepted twice in a rough start for the Bengals without Joe Burrow in their first game since his toe surgery.
(Madison, WI) — The Badgers failed to win a “must-win” Big Ten Conference opener at home Saturday 27-10. The Maryland Terrapins built a 20-0 lead at halftime and controlled the line of scrimmage. Wisconsin’s only touchdown came on a 13-yard pass from Hunter Simmons to Lance Mason with 28 seconds left. After the game, UW Athletic Director Chris McIntosh offered support to embattled Badgers coach Luke Fickell. Fans have called for his firing, but Fickell would have to be paid a 25-million-dollar buyout. Wisconsin has a bye this week, then travels to Michigan October 4th.

Robert Gasser absorbed the loss after his call-up from Triple-A Nashville. Joey Ortiz scored Milwaukee’s only run on a Jackson Chourio sacrifice fly in the fifth. Ortiz had tripled. Right-hander Freddy Peralta starts the first game of a series at San Diego tonight (Monday).

ST. LOUIS (AP) — The Milwaukee Brewers placed pitcher Brandon Woodruff on the 15-day injured list with a right lat strain, putting his availability for the playoffs in jeopardy. Woodruff, who returned this season after October 2023 shoulder surgery, felt something amiss in his tricep during a bullpen session Saturday, and an initial evaluation traced the issue to the lat in his upper back. The news comes four days after left-hander José Quintana went on the 15-day injured list with a left calf strain. Those two moves leave the Brewers, who have the best record in baseball, with plenty of uncertainty in how they could arrange their playoff rotation.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Brooks Lee hit a go-ahead, two-run homer in the sixth, pinch-hitter Royce Lewis had a three-run shot in the seventh and the Minnesota Twins ended the Cleveland Guardians’ 10-game winning streak with a 6-2 victory on Sunday. The Guardians lost for only the fourth time in 20 games and missed a chance to pull even with Detroit in the AL Central after the Braves finished off a sweep of the Tigers with a 6-2 victory. Cleveland will host Detroit for three games beginning Tuesday.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Courtney Williams scored a game-high 23 points, Kayla McBride scored 21, and Napheesa Collier added 18 points and nine rebounds as the top-seeded Minnesota Lynx defeated the Phoenix Mercury 82-69 on Sunday in Game 1 of the best-of-five semifinal series. The Lynx trailed by as many as nine and faced a seven-point deficit at halftime. As Phoenix threatened to even the game down the stretch, it was Williams and McBride making big shots to keep the Mercury at bay. Game 2 is Tuesday in Minneapolis before the teams head to Phoenix for Game 3 on Friday. Kahleah Copper led Phoenix with 22 points and Alyssa Thomas had 18. Mercury leading scorer Satou Sabally was held to just 10 points.
(Madison, WI) — The Wisconsin volleyball team won a tough battle against Florida Sunday in four sets. The final set included 19 ties before the Badgers prevailed 36-34. Wisconsin’s record improves to 7-and-1 with the Big Ten Conference schedule starting at home against Rutgers Friday. The match will be held at the UW Fieldhouse.
