MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Timberwolves have won their fifth straight game. Anthony Edwards scored 22 points, including an impressive two-handed slam over RJ Barrett, and the Wolves beat the Toronto Raptors 115-107 on Thursday night. Edwards had an efficient night, shooting 8 of 12 from the field and 5 of 8 from 3-point range. With Houston falling to Golden State in overtime, the Timberwolves moved one game ahead of the Rockets for third place in the Western Conference. Rudy Gobert had 18 points and 12 rebounds, Julius Randle scored 17 and Donte DiVincenzo had 16 points for the Wolves. Barrett led the Raptors with 25 points.

DENVER (AP) — LeBron James has become the NBA’s leader in career field goals. James surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar on Thursday night in Denver. James set the mark with his third basket of the night against the Nuggets. That gave him 15,838 buckets in his career. Abdul-Jabbar finished with 15,837. Karl Malone is a distant third. James already owns the career scoring record and he has topped 50,000 points across the regular season and playoffs. Lakers coach J.J. Redick compared James’ long run to Bruce Springsteen’s catalog.

(Madison, WI) — The Wisconsin men’s basketball program anxiously waits for the word from doctors on the injury suffered by Nolan Winter. Head coach Greg Gard says it appears Winter has avoided the worst diagnosis. He will go in for testing and evaluation today (Friday). UW plays Purdue tomorrow (Saturday).

(St. Paul, MN) — A 7-2 victory over Minnesota State Thursday night means the Wisconsin women’s hockey team is back in the WCHA Final Faceoff title game. The Badgers will go for their third straight title Saturday afternoon. Kirsten Simms and Kelly Gorbatenko each scored a pair of goals against the Mavericks. UW took 52 shots on goal, while Minnesota State had only 27. Wisconsin’s record improves to 32-3-2.

(Green Bay, WI) — Former Packers president Bob Harlan has died at the age of 89. He had been hospitalized with pneumonia recently. Harlan led the organization from 1989 to 2006. Current team president and CEO Ed Policy called Harlan “a visionary leader whose impact on the franchise was transformational.” He was the winningest executive in NFL history when he stepped down 20 years ago.

(Madison, WI) — The Wisconsin football program has hired a new director of scouting and player personnel. Darius Hicks had been director of scouting for the Michigan State Spartans. Hicks will replace Ethan Russo, who left for a position at Oklahoma State after less than a year in Madison.
