LADYSMITH, Wis. (WJMC) — More information on the investigation into last month’s cyberattack targeting Rusk County’s government website.
County officials said some personal information of a limited number of people may have been compromised. The county is reaching out with written letters to those affected.
No reports of identity theft have been reported, but the county recommends those who were on the site, such as those who have Rusk County government emails like employees, should change passwords, set up two-factor authentication for log ins, turn off saved passwords on devices and watch bank and other financial accounts.
A Russian-based ransomware gang reportedly took responsibility for the cyberattack. A separate cyber attack also took place in November 2025.
The county says it has enhanced safeguards and other cybersecurity measures.
