MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WRN) — Late night human error tabulating thousands of absentee votes in Milwaukee forced a delay of the primary vote count.
“So as part of the download process, there are two things. There’s the audit log and the results. What we uncovered was that five of the sticks had the audit log downloaded and not the results. It’s a human error. These things can happen,” said Milwaukee Election Commission Executive Director Paulina Gutierrez.
Milwaukee County Clerk George Christenson said Wednesday morning that the error was fixed. Results in the Democratic primary for governor were razor thin, with Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley edging out Madison state Representative Francesca Hong by just 3,211 votes. Hong conceded the race early Wednesday morning.
