MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Abortion rights and the influence of donations from billionaires Elon Musk and George Soros took center stage in a sometimes testy debate between candidates for the Wisconsin Supreme Court less than three weeks before the election on April 1.
The race pits Republican-backed Waukesha County Circuit Judge Brad Schimel, a former attorney general, against Democratic-backed Dane County Circuit Judge Susan Crawford. She accused Musk of basically taking over Schimel’s campaign because groups Musk funds have spent over $10 million on the race. Schimel faulted Crawford for benefiting from $1 million in donations from Soros.
The candidates also sparred over abortion rights, judicial ethics and how judges recuse themselves from cases, congressional map redistricting, union power and voter ID.
