MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — There are real concerns about how President Donald Trump’s tariffs will impact Wisconsin manufacturing.

Republican congressman Scott Fitzgerald says tariffs will make it more difficult for Wisconsin manufacturers to get raw materials like steel and timber.

“Yeah, I’m concerned about that part of it. The rest is going to be somewhat volatile, and I think everybody’s kind of sitting back watching how this is going to play out. But when it comes to the supply side, I think that’s an issue for manufacturers,” Fitzgerald said.

“The hope is that Donald Trump doesn’t believe that tariffs are actually a national strategy to prosperity. Business leaders I spoke to don’t agree with that mainstream economists don’t agree with this,” Kooyenga said.

Trump announced last week that broader tariffs against dozens of countries will stay at a ten percent baseline for 90 days to allow time for negotiations.
