MILWAUKEE (AP) — Quinn Priester and four relievers combined on a one-hitter and Rhys Hoskins broke out of his early-season slump to help the Milwaukee Brewers snap a three-game skid by beating the Detroit Tigers 5-0 on Tuesday night.
In his second start since the Brewers acquired him from the Boston Red Sox last week, Priester (1-0) held the Tigers hitless until he allowed a leadoff double to Gleyber Torres in the sixth. Priester departed at that point, having struck out four and walked three.
Jared Koenig, Abner Uribe, Nick Mears and Grant Anderson didn’t allow Detroit any baserunners the rest of the way.
Hoskins had been 8 for 44 with just one extra-base hit in his first 15 games of the season before going 3 of 4 with a homer on Tuesday. Hoskins put Milwaukee ahead for good by leading off the second with a 440-foot drive over the center-field wall on an 0-1 fastball from Jack Flaherty (1-1).
Sal Frelick followed the Hoskins homer by hitting a triple to right before scoring on Garrett Mitchell’s sacrifice fly.
The Brewers extended the lead in the fourth, as Mitchell hit a two-out double off the top of the center-field wall and came home on a bloop hit from Joey Ortiz. Milwaukee then scored two unearned runs in the seventh.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Ryan Jeffers and Harrison Bader had three hits apiece and Brooks Lee homered on Tuesday as the Minnesota Twins defeated the New York Mets 6-3.
Byron Buxton singled twice and scored two runs for the Twins.
Bailey Ober (1-1) gave up three earned runs on five hits with no walks and five strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings to pick up his first victory since Aug. 9, a span of 13 starts.
Jhoan Durán struck out Francisco Lindor, the potential tying run, to earn his first save of the season.
Lindor’s fourth error in 17 games led to a pair of unearned runs in the third when he misplayed Ty France’s two-out grounder to shortstop.
For the Mets, Pete Alonso and Juan Soto each homered — the second in as many nights for Soto, who hadn’t gone deep since the second game of the season.
Tylor Megill (2-2) pitched five innings, giving up four runs — two earned — on eight hits with no walks and three strikeouts.
The Twins scored two runs with two outs in the second on an infield error and an RBI single by Carlos Correa. Harrison Bader’s infield single drove in a run in the fourth.
Buxton’s speed helped the Twins manufacture a run in the fifth. He led off with a single, stole second and moved to third on a groundout.
With the Mets infield pulled in, Buxton broke for home on France’s sharp grounder to second baseman Luisangel Acuña. The throw to the plate was on target but Buxton slid around Luis Torrens’ tag to give the Twins a 4-2 lead.
Lee homered in the seventh to put the Twins up 6-3.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota Twins shortstop Carlos Correa left Tuesday’s game against the New York Mets in the fifth inning with an apparent wrist injury.
Correa swung at a pitch from the Mets’ Tylor Megill and then stepped out of the batter’s box in obvious discomfort. After a visit from a trainer, Correa walked to the dugout and was replaced by Brooks Lee.
Correa is off to a slow start with a .164 batting average and just four RBIs, but his RBI single in the third inning gave the Twins a 2-1 lead.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — The Minnesota Wild clinched a spot in the playoffs in dramatic fashion when Joel Eriksson Ek scored the tying goal with 20.9 seconds left in regulation, and Matt Boldy got the winner with 17.9 seconds remaining in overtime to beat the Anaheim Ducks 3-2 on Tuesday.
The crowd erupted again when the Wild sent retiring goalie Marc-Andre Fleury out for overtime. Fleury made five saves, fending off a 4-on-3 power play.
With an empty net for the extra attacker, Boldy’s pass across the slot set up Eriksson Ek at the edge of the crease. Ducks goalie Lukas Dostal stopped his first try with his stick, but a second whack at the puck got it across the line for his 14th goal of the season.
Rookie Sam Colangelo had the go-ahead goal midway through the third period, Alex Killorn scored and Dostal stopped 37 shots for the Ducks (35-37-9), who were eliminated 11 days ago from postseason contention.
Marcus Johansson scored for the Wild (45-30-7), who have the first wild card spot and will face Vegas in the Western Conference quarterfinals.
