RICE LAKE, Wis. (WJMC) — Local musicians will perform for the community tonight.

The Communiversity Band performs its spring concert tonight at UW-Eau Claire — Barron County at 7 p.m. in the Fine Arts Building. The concert is a joint effort of the UW-Eau Claire — Barron County Music Department and adult musicians of the region.

Band director Mike Joosten tells us about the music.

“Gustav Holst’s “First Suite in Eb” is a pillar of band music. Percy Grainger’s “Molly on the Shore” is also a pillar of band repertoire. We also have a concert soloist on clarinet. His name is Mark Bruschuk. Mark’s got a big career in music as a teacher and a performer. He’s playing the Artie Shaw “Concerto for Clarinet” and it will be a fantastic experience,” Joosten said.

“We have 55 musicians in the band. Musicians come from as far as Cable, Webster, Sheldon and Chippewa Falls,” he said.

Admission is a free-will donation in support of the music department.

In addition, the band will perform again with a joint concert next Tuesday evening with the University Band in Eau Claire. That concert is at 7:30 p.m. on April 29 at the Haas Fine Arts building on the UW-EC campus. Admission is $7.50.
