MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — The American Lung Association has released its annual State of Lung Cancer report and says Wisconsin is above average when it comes to treatment and screenings.

But there are some areas where Wisconsin could improve. Spokesperson Michael Seilback says Wisconsin is one of 28 states that has yet to require any insurance coverage for lung cancer biomarker testing.

“We are calling on all states to pass comprehensive insurance coverage for biomarker testing so that anyone that’s facing this disease has the option without an exorbitant cost of having this done and then working with their doctor to figure out what the best treatment is,” Seilback said.

Biomarker testing lets those diagnosed with cancer find treatments that work specifically for the tumor they have.
