MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — The state Assembly green lights legislation to strengthen laws to curb repeat OWI’s.
In a unanimous vote, the Assembly approved legislation to strengthen the state’s ignition interlock device laws by creating a compliance-based removal system. The Senate passed a companion bill earlier this year and it now awaits the signature of Governor Tony Evers, who supports tougher ignition interlock laws.
Marshfield Republican Rep John Spiros led the push in the Assembly, saying it will mean quicker installation of interlocks and extends their use for offenders who tamper with the device. He adds 30 other states have such a law on the books.
