BARRON, Wis. (WJMC) — This Sunday, the Tree Stand Tavern in Barron will be hosting a benefit for City of Barron Street Department Director and Barron-Maple Grove fire chief Ben Cole, from 12-4 p.m.
Cole experienced a brain stem stroke on February 4 and has been working to regain his coordination and get his vision back to normal.
Former Barron-Maple Grove fire chief Mike Romsos says Cole’s impact on the community can’t be measured.
“I was chief when I retired three years ago, and he took over as fire chief. So he’s been on the department for twenty-plus years now. And I don’t have enough time to say all the good things about Ben,” Romsos said.
He’s a good, personal friend of mine, and I just want to see everything go good for him, and I hope he comes out of this well, and this benefit will take some of the ease off some of the medical bills and other financial burdens.”
Sunday’s benefit will feature raffles, 50/50, a live auction, and a pulled pork dinner for the cost of a free will donation. Chris Kroeze and Rich Schroeder will be performing live at 5pm, following the auction.
