MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — A bipartisan bill in the state legislature would legalize online sports bets in Wisconsin.

Currently, the state constitution only allows betting at tribal casinos. The measure would allow players to place bets from their homes which are routed through tribal servers.

Milwaukee Democratic State Representative Christine Sinicki tells Fox 6 Milwaukee both the tribes and the state would benefit from the action.

“It’s a win for the tribes. They’re gonna get a little money out of it. And because they’re gonna get a little more money out of it, our percentage from the tribes that we get in gambling is, you know, the state will get a little more money out of it,” Sinicki said.

The bill must move through committee hearings before lawmakers vote on it.
