MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — At the Capitol on Wednesday, dozens of Wisconsin childcare workers urged state lawmakers to extend critical funding
“An investment in childcare is an investment in the future of our state. Programs like Head Start and Childcare don’t just help kids, they help families and are the foundations of a strong community and economy,” said a speaker at the rally.
A recent Department of Children and Family Services survey found one in four providers are likely to shut down if the Legislature fails to extend funding for the Child Care Counts Program, set to expire at the end of June.
Governor Tony Evers has included $480 million to continue the program in his proposed state budget.
