WAUSAU, Wis. (WJMC) — Republican State Sen. Romaine Quinn, of Birchwood, sits on the legislature’s finance committee. It held listening sessions on the state budget Monday, in Hayward, and Tuesday, in Wausau.
“In Hayward, we did hear much more on the conservation side—funding county conservation staff. Right now, the money that counties receive from the state is prorated because we are not funding statutorily what we said we said we would over the years. So increasing that. Comments on the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Fund, keeping that alive in some form,” Quinn said.
Quinn said childcare access, school revenue funding and special education funding were also brought up by residents.
Next, the committee will go into closed-door sessions to vote on what is included or taken out of the budget. It is due by June 30. Then the budget goes to the governor’s desk for partial or full vetoes, or approval.
