CHETEK, Wis. (WJMC) — Eight bridges on southbound Highway 53 between Cameron and New Auburn will be worked on this summer and fall.
The southbound bridge over County Highway I will be replaced entirely, while bridge decks will be replaced or repaired for the southbound bridges over Carlson School Road, County Highway AA, County Highway A, the Chetek River, 7-1/2 Avenue (Knapp Street in Chetek), 20th Street and Highway 8.
Southbound lanes of Highway 53 will remain open, but there will be single lane closures. The southbound ramps at County Highway I will be closed, with the detour at Highway 8.
Work begins Monday. It is weather dependent and will be completed in mid-November, and resume in spring of 2026.
The projects cost $10.9 million and Zenith Tech, Inc., of Waukesha, is the primary contractor.
