MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — Cryptocurrency kiosk scams are becoming more and more frequent across Wisconsin.
AARP Wisconsin Director Courtney Anclam says there’s more than 700 of these machines across the state.
“Because these machines don’t have consumer protections and they are cropping up in more places, scammers are using them more and more often to steal money from people. So these crypto kiosks are like a new tool in the scammer’s toolbox, so to say,” Anclam said.
Anclam says fraudsters in these scams will typically pose as government officials or offer phony investment opportunities to get people to convert their money into cryptocurrency at a kiosk.
