SHELL LAKE, Wis. (WJMC) — More information about the fire and damage at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Shell Lake.
Shell Lake Fire Chief Keith Dahlstrom said his department was called out just after 10 a.m. on Thursday, finding smoke in the building but no flames.
The cause of the fire was a faulty appliance in the basement’s mechanical room. The fire was contained to that room and had extinguished itself. Dahlstrom said there was minor fire damage to the building, but significant smoke damage.
Saturday’s Mass has been moved to St. Francis de Sales, in Spooner, at 6 p.m.
