BARRON, Wis. (WJMC) — Former Wisconsin State Trooper Jodi Kummet will be Barron County’s newest sheriff.
She was appointed to the position Wednesday by Gov. Tony Evers. She will serve the remainder of the term through January 2027, formerly held by Chris Fitzgerald, who stepped down June 1 for a position at Mosaic Technologies. Chief Deputy Jason Hagen has been the department’s interim sheriff.
Kummet was born and raised in Barron County, and has more than 30 years of law enforcement experience, reaching the rank of Senior Master Trooper at the State Patrol’s Spooner Post.
Kummet’s appointment is effective July 28.
