RICE LAKE, Wis. (WJMC) — The Governor’s Fishing Opener and Family Fishing Day welcomed all to Rice Lake on Saturday.

Barron County Tourism Represntative Brandi Nelson said the lake was busy with anglers.

“We had about eight guides out there, and that’s not including the Governor’s guide, Secretary [of Tourism] Anne Sayer’s guide,” Neslon said. “So we had almost 20 boats out there, and of course all the DNR boats. There were a ton of those.”

Governor Tony Evers reportedly caught a 19-inch northern and Lt. Gov. Sara Rodrigquez caught a 21-inch northern, winning a friendly competition between the two, with an ice cream cone as the prize.
