MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — With more people struggling to afford healthcare, Wisconsin doctors are urging lawmakers to create a BadgerCare public option.
Family physician Dr. Kristen Dall-Winther practices in the Village of Birchwood and says losing health coverage often leads to much bigger health problems.
“When people lose health insurance, they don’t stop getting sick. They simply stop getting care until their conditions become more serious, more expensive, and more difficult to treat. I think of a 44-year-old woman who I take care of along with her entire family. Since losing it, she’s been hospitalized five times this year alone,” Dall-Winther said.
Supporters say adding the public option would expand affordable coverage options for Wisconsin families.
