MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — Many students head back to school this week and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation and the Department of Public Instruction want drivers to do their part in making sure everyone gets to school and back home safe.

This week is School Transportation Safety Week. It’s a reminder to motorists to follow speed limits, watch for students, pedestrians and bicyclists, avoid distractions, follow instructions from crossing guards, slow when you see flashing yellow school bus lights and stop when you see red flashing school bus lights.

Parents of teen drivers can talk with the new drivers about the importance of careful and safe driving when entering or exiting school parking lots. Young kids can be reminded of how to safely board or exit school buses and not running into traffic.
