WASHINGTON, D.C. (WRN) — U.S. Senator Ron Johnson was a no-vote on legislation that would ban stock trading by members of Congress, presidents, and vice presidents.
Johnson was one of seven Republican’s voting no as the measure from Missouri Republican Josh Hawley advanced out of a Senate committee
“We make it very unattractive for people to step up the plate and run for office or potentially serve an office, so this piece of legislation, really it’s it’s legislative demagoguery. You know, we do have insider trading laws. We have financial disclosure. So I don’t see the necessity of this,” Johnson said.
Johnson warned of “unintended consequences” from the bill, which he also voted against previously.
