MINONG, Wis. (WJMC) — A juvenile is dead after an SUV versus semi crash in Minong Tuesday morning.

Minong Police Chief Lucas Shepard said the crash happened just after 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday, at the intersection of Highways 53 and 77, with a Subaru Ascent and a semi truck. The Subaru was driving north on Hwy. 53 and turned onto westbound Hwy. 77, and did not yield to southbound traffic.

The SUV was struck on the passenger side, critically injuring the driver and one passenger. Both were extricated by firefighters. The passenger was pronounced deceased before they could be airlifted.

The driver was airlifted to St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth, and was in critical condition as of Tuesday, police said. The driver of the semi declined medical treatment.

No names have been released. The crash was under investigation by the Minong Police Department, Wisconsin State Patrol and Washburn County Coroner.
