MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — At the State Capitol, lawmakers debate a Republican authored bill to prohibit gender affirming care for those under 18.
Mosinee Senator Cory Tomczyk co-authored the legislation.

“I am not proposing this bill to demonize the trans community,” Tomczyk said. “But as you can hear from the reaction from the gallery, I’m going to be accused of that. However, when parents allow their children to begin homework therapy, take puberty blockers, and begin to transition, I believe that is child abuse.”

Transgender rights supporters voiced opposition to the Republican-authored bill.

((“Of all the bills that are targeting transgender and non-binary youth, this bill is the cruelest. Testosterone flipped everything on its head, improving my life in ways I didn’t know it could. My anxiety and depression improved. What I was finally aligned with who I was. I’ve lived in Wisconsin my entire life. I’m raising my children here in Wisconsin, one who is trans. Trans youth have every right to be their full authentic selves”))
The legislation, co-authored by Republicans Tomczyk and Representative Scott Allen, was the subject of an hours long public hearing on Wednesday. The bill will likely be vetoed by Democratic Governor Tony Evers.
