MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — Bipartisan legislation could benefit health care providers and patients in Wisconsin.

State Senator Pat Testin of Stevens Point says the bill creating a license for Advanced Practice Registered Nurses will be signed by Governor Tony Evers if it reaches his desk.

“We are all acutely aware that the workforce challenges that we face here in the state are dire when it comes to our frontline medical professionals and by empowering our APRN’s to operate the highest scope of their practice, there is no question that they are going to stand up and deliver top quality healthcare for the patients in every corner of the state, especially in our rural and underserved areas,” Testin said.

The new license will allow nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, certified nurse midwives, and certified registered nurse anesthetists to care for patients without partnering with a doctor. Twenty-seven states have similar licenses in place.

The bill adds new education provisions after Governor Evers vetoed two previous versions.
