MADISON, Wis. (WRN) — State Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu still hopes a portion of the state surplus can go back to taxpayers in the form of rebate checks.

“So $1000 rebate check to joint filers and a $500 rebate check to individual filers.
Unfortunately, the governor came out at the end of last week and called rebate checks a gimmick in spite of the fact that he proposed rebate checks in 2022 when he was running for reelection,” Lemahieu said.

LeMahhieu, on WOMT’s “Be My Guest,” said any plan to use the surplus for tax relief and K-12 funding will require an agreement with Governor Tony Evers and a special session of the Legislature, since the state Assembly has adjourned for the year.
